Dragonfly: Behavioural Adaptations

There are many things dragonflies can chose to do. For example dragonflies choosing to sit in the sun to warm up, is a behavioural adaptation. However once dragonflies become too hot, they begin to take methods to cool down. For example the dragonfly might start to become less active, seek more shade or change their body positions. Some dragonflies even point their wings down in hopes to reflect sunlight away from their bodies. This is an example of another behavioural adaption. Additionally, drangonflies also migrate. Much like birds, the dragonfly migrates to escape the cold. The organism follows the warm spring weather. In summary, if a dragonfly nymph wanted to escape from predation in a hurry, it would squirt water out the end of its tail and jet foward, hence allowing the nymph to escape danger. Above are some examples of behavioural adaptations that dragonflies have developed.

Here we have a dragonfly absorbing water through the exoskeleton. This is how the dragonfly drinks. It's a behavioural adaptation as the dragonfly chooses when to thrist down onto the water to absorb it.

The picture shows a fly being captured by the dragonfly, by using the unique fury legs to help capture the fly. This is a behavioural adaptation as the dragonfly chose to capture the fly.
